The film logo has a design history, not just a font name
In his Art of the Title interview, Dan Perri discusses Suzy Rice’s logo and Joe Johnston’s revisions, including flattening the W and adjustments for the film’s wide image. This is creator evidence about constructed lettering and its treatment. Lucasfilm’s archive also documents an earlier promotional logo by John Van Hamersveld. Those versions are different artifacts. Neither should be reduced to an unverified downloadable alphabet, and a recreation’s family name alone does not establish its role in the 1977 film.

For an original science-fiction heading, compare a plain geometric setting before adding joined strokes or an outline. Check how the design behaves with letters that do not appear in the short phrase that inspired it. If you connect two characters, inspect the resulting negative space at a small size and retain a readable plain-text form for supporting use. Motion, perspective and the position of a title on screen are additional design decisions; a licensed alphabet alone will not reproduce a complete opening sequence.
An independent geometric direction
MyFonts lists ITC Machine from ITC. It is a bold geometric direction to explore for your own title, not a font attributed here to the Star Wars logo. Check the chosen style and intended-use license. Anton and Bebas Neue provide different free display comparisons: one dense, the other tall and compact. Neither includes a claim of exact reproduction. FindFont previews reviewed open-license files and does not distribute Lucasfilm’s logo artwork or an unverified replica font. Keep any original project’s wording, spacing and composition distinct.
Evidence for this attribution ↓Common questions
Is ITC Machine identified as the original Star Wars logo font?
