Wondering “what font is this?” FindFont’s free font finder compares the lettering in your image with WhatFontIs’s catalogue. You can identify fonts in screenshots, logos, posters and photos without creating an account. Each search returns up to 20 matches to inspect.
Read the guide to identifying a font from an image for a practical comparison workflow.
Upload or paste a screenshot, crop one line of text, and choose Find matching fonts. FindFont sends your selected crop to WhatFontIs and returns up to 20 ranked suggestions. Compare the letter shapes before choosing a font.
Use a static PNG or JPG up to 5 MB and fewer than 16 million pixels. You can choose a file, drag and drop it, paste a screenshot, or load a direct public HTTPS image URL. Animated images, SVG, GIF and PDF files are not supported.
Font identification on FindFont is free and does not require an account. Results may include free or paid fonts from external catalogues. A free search does not grant a licence to use any matched font.
Results are suggestions, not a guaranteed identification. A clear, straight line of several distinct letters works better than blurry, curved or overlapping text. Logos may use custom lettering or modified fonts that are not available as a font file.
The result images are WhatFontIs specimens of uppercase letters, lowercase letters or digits. Entering the letters in your selection chooses the most relevant sample; it does not change the recognition request or generate a custom text preview.
File previews and cropping happen in your browser. When you request matches, the selected crop is sent to FindFont and WhatFontIs for recognition. Loading a public image URL first asks FindFont to retrieve that image. FindFont does not add these images to its font library. Temporary request and result data and an abuse prevention cookie support the service; WhatFontIs has its own terms and privacy policy.
Searches share a limited allowance, and each visitor also has a daily limit. When capacity is used up, the tool shows the next available search time when known. Keep your selection for another attempt, browse free fonts, compare typefaces, or read the Famous Fonts stories while you wait.
