The type behind the title
Kashiwagi’s project notes explicitly name ITC Benguiat in the final red treatment. This is direct evidence from a designer involved in the main title sequence, rather than an identification based only on visual resemblance.

In her Art of the Title interview, Dougherty describes changing the typeface to Benguiat and studying its letterforms for the animation. She also discusses experiments with optical imperfections. The sequence’s atmosphere comes from the whole treatment, including motion, light, and timing.
Evidence for this attribution ↓Licensing and alternatives
MyFonts lists ITC Benguiat as a commercial family and offers separate desktop and webfont licensing choices. Use the license that fits your own project. The free serif families below are editorial directions with different letter shapes; none is an exact substitute for the designed title sequence.
Evidence for this attribution ↓Common questions
Is a similar-looking font the original?
Not necessarily. We reserve the original attribution for the typeface named by the people behind the sequence. The suggested alternatives are separate editorial choices.
Will typing in Benguiat recreate the opening?
No. The creators describe a designed and animated treatment. A font supplies the letterforms, not the finished composition, lighting, or movement.
